Civic Realm
Located in a predominantly African American neighborhood of Boston, the Mattapan Branch Library follows the Mayor’s initiative to bring important civic buildings to the city’s more diverse neighborhoods. With significant amounts of glass and warm interior spaces filled with natural light, the building creates a strong civic presence that is decidedly open and inviting to the community, reflecting our beliefs in the library as a fundamentally democratic place. This project features up-to-date library facilities, an open reading room, and an outdoor courtyard which merges the indoor and outdoor experiences of the library.
